On this week’s edition of the Gralien Report, the Gralien Gang delves into the mysteries of synchronicity and strange (though subtle) happenings in our own lives. Are there really such things as uncanny coincidences, or do certain events in our lives truly point to some deeper meaning behind our existence?

  1. …I don’t think those were original Fig Newtons that Micah ate before this week’s show @_@

PS: Re. Mothman, and how the whole Point Pleasant beeswax could have been construed from a series of unrelated weird incidents, I agree it could be possible. I also agree that Keel made up a lot of what he wrote on Mothman Prophecies; and I even agree that the first accounts from the witnesses seem to have described something that resembled a big bird rather than a humanoid entity.

BUT… all the accounts had one thing in common: the depiction of glowing red eyes. If you can show me a picture of a big owl sporting glowing red eyes, then I’ll start considering you have a case here 😉

Anyway I really don’t have a problem with variations in witnesses’ descriptions. If you talk to a police officer he’ll tell you that this is actually expected since humans tend to register and remember things very differently from person to person; it’s when you find testimonies that are exactly the same when you begin to suspect confabulation.

Not to mention that with Fortean phenomena the perception of witnesses varies even more. Take a look at all the different descriptions given by the witnesses of the so-called ‘Miracle of the Sun’ as reported by Joaquim Fernandes and Fina D’Armada when they investigated the original parochial testimonies on the Fatima apparitions of 1917. These phenomena are partly construed by the subconscious of the human witness despite their varying levels of ‘physicality’.

  2. Your comments on dark matter are a bit ridiculous. It is NOT antimatter. It is NOT the absence of matter. It is (or seems to be) some form of matter that can currently only be detected by it’s gravitation. That’s it. You might call the name a placeholder until more information is discovered. Adding anything else is as nonsensical as saying “We don’t know, therefore ALIENS!”. Science is all about not knowing everything, but about moving from one little bit of knowledge to the next. Only religious fanatics from any area claim that they have all the answers.
Thanks for the show but for all our sakes calm down about the universal love BS. I appreciate it makes you feel good, great! But it is annoying to listen about from outside the bunker. I don’t know how your compatriots let you get away with the rants without dumping a bucket of water on your head!! Be well.

  3. Dan, Dan… oh dear Dan…

While I appreciate (truly!) your reasoned debate over the dark matter issue, I’m troubled to hear of your “annoyance” with the “universal love BS.” You, in fact, are the first listener who has complained about this! The overwhelming majority, on the other hand, have expressed joy and gratitude for this kind of discussion on the program (I plan to feature a segment on tomorrow’s show about this, in fact). Obviously, the message is reaching someone… and even if you disagree with my sentiments, I’m glad nonetheless that it inspired you to reach out to us regardless. The intention was put forth, and for good or for ill, you responded.

That said, I must advise that if you dislike this sort of “BS talk” this much, you may need to find another podcast. Do understand though, that rather than out of frustration (since I have none), I say this to you (you guessed it!) out of love, and I really do wish you all the best… I just want you to find whatever it is you’re looking for, and it sounds at the moment like maybe The Gralien Report simply isn’t that! And I’m okay with that, too… maybe my rambling isn’t for everyone, ha ha.

If you change your mind, however, you’ll ALWAYS have a home here with us. Be well indeed, fellow space traveler… and I appreciate your feedback with profound and sincere gratitude. 🙂

  4. Micah, I understand that you are frustrated with mainstream academic science being portrayed as “having all the answers” conerning existence. It’s not the fault of individual scientists that such is the case. I’d challenge you to think about that meme for a bit. Do you honestly think that any physicist worth his/her salt would say that the theory of dark matter is a given? Truly, you don’t understand the essence of science if you believe we tout our superiority by claiming we definitively know the nature of the universe. One essence of science is constantly acknowledging that we DON’T know. We try to take (experimentally reproducible) characteristics/behaviors known concerning whatever system we work within, to discover more about the nature of this reality.

Dan’s “place-holder” comment was spot-on. Dark matter was conceived as an IDEA to explain the discrepancies in gravitational lensing of background radiation and calculated gravitational mass effects. It may be one of the more popular theories, but not the only one being examined by scientists. (E.g. quantum gravity is another one)

I don’t know if you’ve ever watched the show, “Through the Wormhole”, but I do remember several episodes dealing with dark matter, and having high profile physicists as guests. If I remember correctly, they made it clear that NO ONE has a clue as to the nature of dark matter, which makes sense since no one has managed to even detect it.

I believe in an unseen world that escapes our direct detection in part, due to the limitation of our senses, and cluttering of our minds with the mundane. You surely have the same ideas, and this is why I am disheartened by your spiteful commentary, when in fact those with your sentiments often experience the same kind of derision.
