  1. Dyatlov group was at risk from the get go . . .

    With one exception, a mature hiker of 38, this was a very young group; a risk factor in and of itself.

    We have a wilderness area nearby (as well as several colleges); young hikers and climbers of this age are frequently rescued by S&R teams. Despite the protestations of family and friends about their high level of experience and level-headedness, their breaking of basic wilderness rules or running into something unexpected or not experienced before is often what got them into trouble.

    Encountering something completely natural, yet unfamiliar and frightening, under extreme conditions could have easily lead to panic, bad decisions, and a sad end. The Dyatlov Incident has always been a tragedy, not a paranormal mystery.
